Those Crazy Germans

A childrens book that I'll not be buying. I've been told the text is pretty funny too, maybe Emmet can translate?

From your post I thought for sure you were talking about Struwelpeter (yes, I'm sure I misspelled it).

I just showed it to L. who lived in Germany as a kid and he kind of nodded and said, "yeah, Germans are like that" but then he remembers the school bus driving past a building everyday that had "SEX" flasing in neon ten feet high. He's still pissed he was too young to avail himself of that one.

I dunno, if it stops a country from freaking out when a mammary gland appears unexpectedly, I'm all for it. I'm not sure how old I was when our family aquired a copy of the four volume "life cycle library" that very tastefully covered the whole spectrum of issues surrounding how babies arrive... including social and gender issues... given that I rabidly consumed every book in the house, it was inevitable that I'd be browsing through them... By the time puberty hit, I was pretty well equipped to deal with was was going on, and probably saved myself a few traumas.

I don't think the book really needs much translation. In fact, text seems superfluous, with graphic images like that.

God I love the Germans.

It would be easy to translate. The German used is pretty basic.

And it may be my German upbringing, but I don't see anything wrong about this kind of frankness regarding biology. Europeans are the opposite of Americans and object to violence, whereas sex is pretty acceptable -- and I think that's appropriate, myself. Understanding leads to tolerance.
